Introduction

The team members within a Concurrent Design activity typically represent a Domain of Expertise that is required in the design. These domains are managed at the level of the Site Directory and available to be used within a specific Engineering Model.

This section describes how a team for a Concurrent Design activity can be created by assigning [Persons] as Participants to the required active domains in a specific engineering model, with a required Participant Role.

Initial Active Domain and Participant for new Engineering Model

The person that has created a new engineering model setup is automatically assigned to it as a participant, in the Participant Role of Model Administrator, see the description of managing engineering models. This initial participant then has to perform several steps to setup and manage the other active domains and participants, to make sure that other team members can get access to the engineering model when required.

Engineering models can be expanded using the triangular arrow img icon to show the Participants and Iterations, each in a separate folder.

Open the Engineering Model browser by selecting the Models img icon on the Directory tab. This will show all the available engineering models the user is allowed to see according to the permissions, depending on the setup of the Person Role and the engineering models to which the user is assigned.

The Participants are given with the Name, Description and Role. In the description column, the Organization and Domain of Expertise are provided.

For a new engineering model, this will thus give in any case the domain and the participant as model administrator for the person that created the new engineering model. If an engineering model was created based on another engineering model, e.g. a template or study model, additional domains that were set as Active Domains in the source model, and participants to the source model will be available as well in the new engineering model, see managing engineering models.

Set Active Domains for Engineering Model

In the setup of a team for a Concurrent Design activity, one of the first steps is to setup or edit the Active Domains in the engineering model. This is done by editing the Engineering Model Setup. Select the Edit Engineering Model Setup img icon or in the context menu select Edit. On the Active Domain tab, a list is given of all Domains of Expertise that exist at the level of the Site Directory. To add other domains as Active Domains for the engineering model, tick the check box for the required domains and select Ok.

Add Participant with Participant Role

Users that have the appropriate permissions in their Person Role (see Manage Person Roles) can edit the participants in an engineering model.

In the Engineering Model browser, expand the Participants folder to inspect the existing participants. In the context menu (on the engineering model, the participants folder, or on an existing participant), select Create a Participant. On the Basic tab of the Create Participant modal dialog, select a Person using the drop-down.

For this person as a new participant, the required Participant Role has to be specified. This is a mandatory field to allow a participant access to the engineering model with the appropriate permissions. For examples on this, see the description of a typical role setup.

The default domain for the selected person will be automatically preselected as Domain of Expertise if this domain is set as an Active Domain for the engineering model. It is always possible to change this default domain assignment by ticking or unticking the check boxes for the available domains as required. A person can participate in multiple domains and multiple users can participate in a single domain. If the default domain is not provided for the person, or if this is not an active domain in the engineering model, of course it cannot be preselected and the user has to provide the correct domain assignment for the new participant.

See below for a description of the Is Active setting.

Manage Participant's Access by Is Active Setting

To allow a participant access to the engineering model, the participant has to be active, see the figure of the Create Participant modal dialog. As long as a participant is not set as Is Active, the user will not be able to access the engineering model as a participant.

This can be used to revoke access for a specific participant. It can also be used to setup the required team already, but only provide access to a core team of engineers that is needed to perform [preliminary engineering] tasks, by setting only those team members as Is Active.

When the Concurrent Design activity is moving to the Design Sessions Phase the other participants can be edited to be set to Is Active.

Inspect Participants

To inspect a participant, select the Inspect Participant img icon or in the context menu select Inspect. In the Inspect modal dialog, all the details can be seen on the Basic tab. Additionally the status of the participant is given by the check box for Is Active, see the description of this above.

The Advanced tab provides information that may be useful mostly to CDP™ database administrators. Given are the UniqueID and the Revision Number.

Edit Participants

To edit a participant, select the Edit Participant img icon or in the context menu select Edit. It is possible to edit all the fields on the Basic tab, except the Person field.

Most often, required changes will concern the representation of the Domain(s) of Expertise, or the Is Active setting as explained above.

After making the required changes, click Ok.

The browsers in the CDP™ Client of the user that performed the editing action will be updated immediately. Other CDP™ Clients will be updated with a refresh.

On the Advanced tab, a Revision Number is given; see the description of Revision Number for details.

Delete Participants

To delete a participant, select the Delete Participant img icon or in the context menu select Delete.
